The Art of the Chocolatier...

In April 2007 Thorntons created the world first edible bilboard, it was a fantastic idea for promotion of the company. The 14.5ft wall stood in all its sweet glory outside the Covent Garden store in London and was devoured by shoppers within 3 hours!

Thorntons History...

Thorntons is the largest British Chocolate Company, with over 400 stores located only in the UK. The company was extablished in 1911 by Joseph William Thornton and today is a £180 million turn over company.
Thorntons has always been a seasonal business, with sales at their highest in Febuary (Valentines Day), March (Mothers Day/Easter) and December (Chirstmas).
The first Thornton store was located in Sheffield alongside a railway, owned by the Thornton family it was known to be one of the best sweet shops in town. The growth of the store continued over the years and was passed through members of the Thornton family. In 1928 the first Thorntons store out of Sheffield was created and by the 1960s the 200th chocolate store was opened.
By 1999 the company started to create in-store coffee shops, which became highly successful and just 2 years later the store began selling hot drinks and pasteries.
Thorntons today in 2010 continues to be a seasonal business that is highly successful and even produce there own dessert products for UK supermarkets.
